Medical applications

Cobra manufactures textile braiding machines and wire braiding machines that are used in the following medical braid applications:

Catheters – where a reinforcing structure is required
Sutures – braided sutures manufactured from silk, polyester or PGASilicone tubing – braiding machines for manufacturing braid reinforced silicone tubing. These braided products are manufactured in a clean room environment
Ligaments – braid used in the repair of damaged ligaments
Dental wire - lightweight orthodontic dental wire for braces

One of the main benefits of the Cobra machine is that the braid is clean and free from any machine oil. This is because the torsion spring is enclosed which eliminates the risk of oil being transferred to the yarn or wire.

The release tension on the carrier can easily be set to handle very sensitive yarns such as 11 denier silk.

The Cobra braiding machine is designed for use with either plastic flanged bobbins or tubes depending on the application. Tapered cross-wound packages do offer advantages in the textile braiding process in comparison with parallel wound bobbins. This is very critical for fine yarns where the risk of yarn trapping can be eliminated.

Braiding machines are available in a wide range of braiding machinery carrier sizes to suit either textile or yarn braiding for medical applications. 8, 12 and 16 carrier machines are available for suture braiding.

Cobra’s consultancy and advisory service is available to all customers, ensuring each braiding machine is customised precisely to your braiding requirements, giving optimal performance whatever the demands placed on the braiding machine.
